It’s funny but it’s true and it’s but it’s not funny

Diploma project by Moritz Zeller and Paula Hohengarten: The artist’s book spans 144 pages and features 48 images of four different figures. The sequence of images is interspersed with quotes from John Berger’s essay “Ways of Seeing.”

The typography of John Berger’s text is an interpretation—or, rather, a reaction—to its content. The entire text was typeset by hand. Upon closer inspection, one notices the varying line spacing and the elements set at an angle, which lend the text a distinct energy of its own.

The cover of the artist’s book features a blind-embossed design created from a handmade woodcut—a reference to the structure of the wooden sculptures. The orange fabric strip along the spine marks the book’s hinge, alluding to the “bending moment of the body.”
